Well, it was bound to happen. The 28th weigh in at Weight Watchers and I gained this past week. :( 2.4 pounds. I had jumped on the scale yesterday (well, not literally jumped...lol) and it showed I was up. My feet have been swelling and even today they were swollen from 1st thing this morning. So even though I stayed within my points and walked 3 days, I gained. I thought I'd be absolutely devastated and while I'm very unhappy at how much it is, I can accept it.
Sunday, for one of my best friends oldest daughter....she turned 21 and we visited 4 different wineries. I only drank at 2 of them because the last 2 I'd been to before and I didn't want to drink away all my points. I have a feeling that since I've really not been drinking, that didn't help my gain. But I digress. There were 6 of us who went with no more than half an hour between any winery. We had such a wonderful day together and celebrating her. We ended the day going to a restaurant that used to be a barn and sat up in the loft. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. What an awesome day it was!
Friends truly do make the world a brighter place!
Here's the links to the wineries (I think 1 of the sites may be down but they are working on it) and for the restaurant. If you're in my part of PA, please take time to visit these places. It will make for wonderful memories I'm sure.

Just Ducky
Yesterday we had the opportunity to go into Pittsburgh and take a Ducky Tour. Now, I've done this in the city of Baltimore many years ago and LOVED it so I was hopeful that the one in Pittsburgh would be as much fun. Although it's only an hour long and the Baltimore one is an hour an a half. I'd have preferred a longer time since we were having so much fun we weren't ready to disembark. I HIGHLY recommend one of these Ducky Tours if they are near you. You go on a tour of the city through the streets and then they take you into the water. YES, in the same vehicle. It's SO much fun. We quacked at people as we'd stop at red lights and learned a lot of neat facts. (Who knew Pittsburgh had so many bridges!!! 446 for those of you curious)
Although it's a bit pricey (I recommend going with a group so you get the cheaper rate) it is very worth it! You get on the tour outside of the Hard Rock Cafe where we had lunch and I'd also recommend that. It was a GREAT day!
Just Ducky Tours
Also had another successful week at Weight Watchers. I lost another 1.2 pounds for a total of 54.4. My neighbor also met her goal this week. We were very happy and I was so excited for her. She always said she wanted to shop at Victoria's Secret so I bought her a gift card. I told her it might only buy a string but I was so proud of her I wanted her to be able to celebrate some. *big smiles*
Hope things are good in YOUR life!!!

A Pittsburgh Place
Last spring we went to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh and it's a trip that has stayed with me and I highly recommend it to everyone I know any time they are looking for somewhere to go. The day we went we were able to take our time and look at the exhibits, sit and listen to one of the staff discuss some of the wildlife, go through the tropical forest (watch out for bird poop which gets you a special button.....which I'd rather not have....lol), and we were even able to go to a class about penguins and see one up close. It was a wonderful day and one I'd highly recommend. There is a gift shop on site and outside they had a big tent set up with tables and chairs where we could eat our bag lunch. Take the time to visit this wonderful facility.

Idewild Park
Today is our community day and I thought I'd share with you about the park where it's being held.
Idlewild Park is in Ligonier, PA. It's a great park for the young to old. The little ones can visit Story Book Forest where they'll find their favorite nursery rhymes. They also have a lot of rides geared for the little ones. One of our favorites was always the trolley ride at Mr. Roger's Neighborhood where you "Come Along, Come Along, to the Castle Hug and Song." There is also Jumpin' Jungle which is sure to tire them out a bit as they climb all over the ropes or jump in the ball pit.
Idlewild also has rides for the older kids. There is the Wild Mouse coaster and then the wooden coaster might not be as big as the new coasters these days, but it packs a punch. One of the favorite areas of the older ones seems to be the Soak Zone. There is huge pool, slides, and lots of fun things for all to do including the little ones who have their own area.
If you want to just kick back and relax a bit, you can visit Hootin' Holler where you'll find the Crooked House which is always one of my favorites. You can also catch a show there or maybe on the main stage. Our favorite Potato Patch fries can also be found in Hootin' Holler.
There are plenty of trees for shade and lots of benches if you just want to kick back and people watch. If you plan on bringing a picnic, you can always go to one of the new picnic groves the park has been putting in the past few years. It's a wonderful family park.
Admission is $26.95. The park opens daily at 10:00 a.m.

Catching Up
I returned home Monday evening and it's been very busy since then. Had a nice visit with my sister and niece. We spent lots of time shopping and laughing. Told my niece she must have really been loving on me cause she never left the house all weekend unless it was with us and normally I know she's never home.
Since coming home, we've just been putting things away, grocery shopping, visiting my parents, swimming and then Weight Watchers last night. I'm down another 5 pounds which gives me a total of 25.6 so far. Yay!
Tonight we'll go see my son who is at Scout camp this week. Our friends are driving which will be a nice break for hubby. Feels like all we've been doing is spending time on the road. It's about an hour drive to see him tonight.
Soon I hope to have some time to do some scrapping again. Gotta do my part to contribute to our site and I've been sadly lacking in that department the past month.
Off to check out some more sites. If you have a chance, see my post on the Pittsburgh Zoo. They've had 2 new baby elephants born in July. SOOOO sweet those things are!

Back for a few days
We arrived home last night about midnight from our week at Myrtle Beach, SC. What an awesome week it was! We had a few times of mild rain but never anything that ruined our whole day. We had excellent dinners each night and many places we walked right in with no wait. If you're heading that way a few places I'd recommend: Crabby Mike's (great buffet and crab legs!), Bovine's and Dead Dog Saloon in Murrell's Inlet, Niblz and Rivercity Cafe on the Surfside Pier, Tripp's at Broadway at the Beach and the Nascar Cafe (can't think of the right name but that's close.) The boys went to the Nascar Speedpark the one night and it was very crowded. 3 rides in 3 hours. They had a great time there though. Many nights they also walked from our condo to the Garden City Pier area and would go cart there. (It's 1.2 miles) Our condo was right on the beach and we stayed there 2 years ago. We couldn't ask for a nicer, more comfortable place. The owner has upgraded the kitchen appliances and the location right on the beach is outstanding. Yesterday morning before we left I just stood on the deck watching the waves crashing in wondering where the week had gone. It was so relaxing. No rushing and just taking our time to do whatever we wanted. The one night we walked the boardwalk at Murrell's Inlet which we'd never done before. We were checking out all the boats in at the dock and also watched a cornhole tournament being started up. It's one of those quiet things that isn't advertised but brought us a lot of enjoyment walking along.
I have a nice tan now. Even my legs have some color. I always say there is too much fat in them for them to tan! LOL I stayed on my Weight Watchers and was very pleased with the temptations I was able to avoid. I have to admit I wanted a fried clam at Crabby Mike's in the worst way though! hehehe But it never made it on my plate. Whew!
Back to reality today and unpacking still to do. We were out in our pool for a while but it started really raining hard so we were chased inside. The water is 88 degrees. WOW! I'm hoping to spend some time in there this week before we head to my sisters in Indy for a visit on Thursday.
How have YOU been?

Vacation
I'm posting this today even though we're not leaving until tomorrow afternoon because I know how much I have to accomplish between now and then.
Tomorrow we leave for Garden City, South Carolina for a week. I can't wait! We've rented the condo where we're going two years ago and it's right on the beach and in excellent shape. After all the stresses of the past few weeks, we need to get away and just relax. I can't wait to just sit and watch the waves!
So I will see you after the 19th. Be well, safe, and happy!

Weekly Place to Visit
With the 4th of July holiday quickly coming up, I thought I'd share a place I like to go to during this holiday. The Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival is always held during this time. You can go from July 3-6 this year. It's held at Twin Lakes Park in Greensburg, PA. The hours are 11-8. It's recommended that you ride the shuttle which is $2 round trip from the University of Pitt at Greensburg.
This is one of my all time favorite summer things to do. One of my best friends, her daughters and I usually drive out (yes, there is parking nearby but it's hit or miss.) We spend the day making sure everyone gets to see what they want to, listen to the music they like and eat what they want. There is such a variety that we all go away happy. The festival is spread out over the grounds and there are some really awesome arts and crafts vendors. You can always find some unique things and your typical favorites. If you have young children they will even be happy with a visit to the Kid's Area. They have all kinds of neat things to do there for the younger ones. The music is in different places also and we always make sure to check out several of the acts. There is even a main "floating stage" on one of the lakes. The food....oh what can I say.....it's going to be a day that's difficult to stay on my Weight Watchers!
Check it out and take your family. Admission is free. Lastly, pray the rain stays away!

My Place of the Week
This week I'd like to tell you about Kennywood Park. Now growing up I went to Kennywood each year twice a year. Once on school picnic day and then another time when the band played in August. It's always a day of fun if not some excitement (we were there the year a microburst went through the area and unfortunately someone was killed and people were badly hurt.) Now as an adult, I still look forward to the day we go at the end of school for our picnic day. As I've gotten older I've become more of a bench sitter but there are so many fabulous rides there. This year they've added a new ride and it was a lot of fun. I'm told it's a lot like the Buzz Lightyear ride at Disney. I still love the Whip and my little friends know I'm always game for a ride with them. We hold our hands up in the air around the corners and yell. I'm not sure if they enjoy it more or me! hehehe
Of course, if you like roller coasters (and I don't), Kennywood has some of the best coasters in the country. The Thunderbolt is very well known for its wooden track and speed. Then there's the Phantom's Revenge, the Jack Rabbit and the Racers. The Pitt Fall is another thrill ride you won't find me on but is loved by many. So is the Exterminator which is indoors and I can't tell you what it looks like because I've never been on it. Even my hubby who loves the coasters doesn't like that one. (Might have something to do with losing a hat the first year) There are so many great rides at Kennywood that I'd highly recommend it. It's pricey to get in so look for bargains in the area to help out with the price of admission. I promise you though that your family will have a fabulous time.
2008 PRICES, HOURS, DATES and events schedule
PRICES: Regular FunDay admission is $32.00/person. Junior Funday (under 46" tall) is $19.00/person. Senior (55+) FunDay is $15.00. Night Rider is $17.00-daily after 5 pm.
Operating Hours: Kennywood gates open @ 10:30 am and rides begin to open @ 11 am. Closing times are determined daily, but closing is usually around 10 pm depending upon weather and crowd conditions. During Phantom Fright Nights, the park is open from 7 pm until 1 am. Kennywood does not have daytime operating hours during Phantom Fright Nights.

All Over the Place
Ever have one of those days where your mind is just whirling around with so many thoughts you can't complete any of them before you move on to the next one? Today is one of those days for me.
The prevailing thought I've had today is how sad I am when people let me down. I'm a very trusting person and I tend to think people are what they present be it online or off. I should know better. This weekend I've had not one but two people in which I'm very disappointed at how things have progressed. Both I have known for a long time. From a conversation with one about enjoying some quiet time it went into them being angry I hadn't told them I'd have quiet, alone time. It got very ugly by the end but sad to say I think it truly is the end of our time as friends. The other situation I truthfully can't fully figure out and that's probably why it still is so heavily on my mind. I'm too angry to even discuss it. One thing about me is that I'm very passionate about how I feel. I feel things in a HUGE way. If you are special to me, you'll always be special.
Before I move on to another thought I thought I would say that my family got home last night and my son was grumbling already but they had a wonderful time.
Next rambling thought....I thought I'd share places in Pittsburgh to go and explore. Today being an overcast day that's not quite as hot as it was last week made me think of the zoo. I was there at the beginning of May on a similar day (well, OK a bit chillier) and it was probably the best trip I've ever had there. The animals were all out and active. I missed seeing giraffes that day though. The new polar exhibit is great even if we did only see one of them. They were filming something at the elephants because there were men out with big microphones and a camera in the midst of them as the elephants roamed around with the trainer being close by to keep one elephant away from a scooter out there too. LOL It was a great day I would highly recommend it to anyone. Below is the information to check it out. ENJOY your day!

Canoe
This morning is the day my guys leave for 4 days. They will travel today to the middle of the state and meet up with a group called the Pack Shack. They will provide all the supplies and a guide and they embark tomorrow for a trip on the Delaware River. They are excited and I'm nervous. I'm not sure why either. I'm just staying out of the way as they finish up their packing.
It will be a quiet day then. Maybe I'll do some cleaning since I like having it clean once they leave and I know it will stay that way since I'm the only one here. It should be nice so I'll get some pool time in too.
Hope your day is a good one no matter what you are doing.

Community Days
Yesterday we spent a delightful day at Greensburg Community Days. When you think about a holiday such as Memorial Day, I always think of those days when families all got together and the community had a big celebration. Well, that's what is happening this weekend in Greensburg. They had arts and crafts booths, a carnival with a lot of rides for the kids, FOOD booths....oh were those BBQ ribs good! But the best part of any festival like this for me is the music. There is a variety so that something will appeal to everyone. My son's pipe band played there and then after them, there was an oldies band. They were having a few rock bands later to appeal to the younger kids and the day was being topped off with fireworks.
It was a gorgeous day and as I sat people watching for a good while, it was nice to see the grandmas and grandpaps come in with their chairs and yet also see the young couples walking holding hands. Then you had the families pushing their strollers or chasing after their toddlers. The smiles on everyones face lit up the day. I find myself smiling a day later just thinking about it all. It was a wonderful way to spend part of our day. The day was topped off by going to the neighbors and sitting out on their deck with a fire in the pit last night. Summer is just around the corner!!!!
